Do you remember that sticky paper your mom (or grandma) used to put on the insides of drawers, or sometimes to cover up some not-so-nice shelving in a pantry or basement storage? I can tell you this: every shelf in my home was covered in contact paper when we moved in, and I was not happy about it! Then something magical happened. I went on the Internet. And my whole outlook on contact paper has been forever changed! Did you know that you can make over furniture with this stuff, and it actually looks great? If you don’t believe me, be prepared to be amazed, just like I was. Contact paper is actually amazing!
Marble Contact Paper
This is by far my favorite kind of contact paper, because marble is so hot right now and is always a chic option – but it can be expensive. Contact paper allows for a cost effective and beautiful option. This IKEA coffee table looks expensive and modern with a touch of marble on top. [Via ]
Nightstands can sometimes be forgotten, left to be boring and neglected, but why not update them slightly with a little marble? I think waking up to a shiny marble surface would put an extra spring in my step in the early morning hours. [Via
You may or may not know that I have big love (which can also be called an obsession) with black and white. I made over to have a little more black and white in my life, and now I am seriously considering a marble top to go with it! This is a great option to add a dash of interest to your tabletop. [Via ]
My big love for black and white followed by my big love (read: obsession) with IKEA. This is another IKEA makeover, and not the last you will see in this post, so be forewarned! Really, though, how chic is this simple table with a marble top? There’s no way anyone would ever guess this came in a flat box! [Via ]
This is a small makeover, but it makes a big impact. This bar cart once had a simple glass shelf (this is an IKEA desk, by the way), and now it has a sophisticated marble one. I love that the small shelf is marble, with the top remaining glass, because you get to see this little gem underneath the bottles and decor above. [Via ]
There are some lovely laminate countertops out there these days, but there are also really really bad ones, and replacing them isn’t always an option. Cover that bad boy up with some marble contact paper and you have yourself an elegant look for very little cash. This would be a great option for renters, too! [Via ]
Yes, this is another IKEA makeover. But, I mean, it’s too fabulous not to be shared! The copper and marble together are basically a dream come true, and they definitely make for an updated, modern and yet classic piece of furniture that is sure to be the talk of all your guests! [Via ]
Contact Paper Shelving
I have an IKEA problem and I cannot be stopped. I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry. This is such a cool makeover, and it makes this simple piece seem like it came from an expensive store. The mirrored shelves are definitely a striking touch! [Via ]
Ever wish your shelves had a little bit more depth to them? Well now you can add that desired depth, and best of all, it’s removable and can be changed as often as you’d like! Just imagine the possibilities! I love how the pattern in this built-in shelving makes some of the white ceramic pieces pop! [Via
If I’m going to be honest, I have to tell you that of all the contact paper patterns, the wood selection was always my least favorite. Then I saw this. Come on, just think of the possibilities with this one! DIY shelving with MDF never looked so good! Applying contact paper is easier and less messy than painting, so this is a great option! [Via ]
Are you a contact paper convert like me? I hope so! I can assure you I already have plans to look for some (probably marble) contact paper to make over some pieces in my own home, and I am oh so excited about the potential!
